Collection: Thank the Heavens (Be Grateful)

Official Introduction:

Thank the Heavens  |  謝天

Characteristic of one of Chinese culture’s oldest dynasties is the artistic renderings of the glass pieces exhibited in this collection.  Titled “Thank the Heavens,” the series uses the roots of an agricultural society to express veneration for the “heavens” and the bountiful grains and riches that the earth has to offer.  The glasswork in this series differs from other LIULI work in that the theme is more closely tied with divinity, linking the earthly with the ethereal in this throwback to more ancient traditions.   The artworks here make subtle references to old literature and folklore with motifs such as the “black tortoise” and “white tiger,” transforming thousands of years of storytelling into elegant and meaningful glass artwork.
